Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official commented the attack left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
